Pricing and Medicare rebates

Treatment cost depends on the number and type of procedures required, which is determined by duplex ultrasound findings. An estimated number of treatments, the estimated cost, and any applicable Medicare rebates are provided as a written quote at consultation, before any decision to proceed.

The initial consultation and venous duplex ultrasound scan are eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Vein treatment that is medically necessary is also eligible for a Medicare rebate. Eligibility depends on the clinical findings of the duplex ultrasound assessment and on meeting the criteria set by Medicare. Treatment performed for cosmetic reasons alone does not attract a rebate. Eligibility is assessed individually for each patient and confirmed at consultation.

A GP referral is not required to book a consultation. Patients who have an existing GP referral, or a scan performed elsewhere, are invited to provide these ahead of the appointment.

Scope of practice and referral

Canberra Vein Care provides non-surgical and minimally invasive vein treatment in an outpatient setting. It does not provide open surgical vein stripping, deep venous surgery, arterial surgery, or inpatient care. Patients with suspected deep vein thrombosis, arterial disease, or conditions requiring vascular surgical or hospital management are referred for urgent or specialist assessment as clinically indicated.
